Eve of Destruction<\/a>, page 17. Well, I’m not gonna do this again. I will post below the inks page where you won’t see the wide-angled landscape in the big panel. I decided to do it afterwards directly in color. Well, I laid out the sketch with watercolor pencils hoping these would later disolve. I had to resort to gouaches in the end, because I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. You may see both the inks and the early color WIP below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From now on, I will put it in drawing wherever I can, even if it means extra work on foliage, branches and stuff. Well, probably won’t ink clouds and stuff, but all the other tangible stuff I probably will. As I write this, I’m doing page 18 in which I’d like to think I’ve laid out the more detailed inks. I’m also viewing one of Moebius’ Arzach<\/a> albums as I’m going for more clear line + flats feel, which is crazy, since I went from Juan Gimenez<\/a> to French BD ligne claire<\/em><\/a>. To be honest, I always loved Juan Gimenez, but I’m not sure I really wanted to emulate him. I always thought he’s one of a kind. Still, as the opportunity presented itself for me to directly paint over my linework, I thought, heck, I might give it go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BTW, speaking of Juan Gimenez, I’m almost certain he used airbrush for his Fourth Power<\/a> album, although our story being about Vietnam, Apocalypse the Eyes of Doom<\/a> is where you want to be. However, I prefer the style of the former despite the greater relevance of the latter. And the paintbrush… I don’t know. I’d have to try it sometime to pass judgement. Could be fun. It certainly lends itself well into the worlds the late J. Gimenez was so fond of creating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
