The International Comic Salon was everything I had hoped for and more. However, my trip to Erlangen wasn’t just about comics. I spent a considerable amount of time at the city’s Historical Museum, which turned out to be an enlightening experience. The museum offers a deep dive into the turbulent history of Erlangen and Germany, spanning from the German Empire through World War II and the Holocaust, up to the Reconstruction years.
It was both humbling and fascinating to see how the city and country have evolved over time. One of the highlights of the museum was the exhibit on Siemens, showcasing the company’s historical factory artifacts. From early telephones and typewriters to various industrial tools, the exhibit provided a glimpse into the technological advancements that have shaped modern industry. It was intriguing to see how Siemens, a company with deep roots in Erlangen, has contributed to technological progress over the decades.
If you ever find yourself in Bavaria, Erlangen is definitely worth a visit, whether you’re a comic fan, history buff, or simply someone who enjoys exploring new places. For what it’s worth, photos of my trip are here.
